Primary – English

Gain mastery in comprehension, writing and developing English language skills through various text types, literary devices such as metaphors and ironies and developing strong skills in editing, proofreading and summary writing. Be better prepared for O/N level and SEC exams.

We continue to build on what was taught in Sec 2, to continue to reinforce the power of the English language usage through the key areas of focus

Reading Comprehension and viewing skills

Students will develop skills to process and comprehend age-appropriate texts at literal and inferential levels with Summary skills reinforced, in addition to Factual Text and Visual Text Comprehension.

Writing skills

Students will learn to write effectively in different contexts including situational writings of emails, letters and reports and continuous writing in the forms of narratives, argumentative and discursive styles.

Grammar and Vocabulary

Students will build a strong foundation in grammar and vocabulary, understanding how language is used to communicate meaning and achieve impact via editing practices.

Speaking and Listening

Students will practice speaking and listening skills, develop fluency and clarity in their communication through oratorical skills such as planned responses, spoken interaction and public speaking via presentations. Listening Comprehension Exam components will be practiced as well.

Critical thinking and Analysis

Students will learn to analyse texts critically, identify literary devices and understand different perspectives.
